This open letter to our congregation serves to inform the church that we will be launching a second satellite campus in the town Carthage beginning January 1, 2016. This development allows us a unique and privileged opportunity to serve, pastor, and support residents in eastern Jefferson County, and adds to the exciting momentum that we see God building among us.
The Senior Pastor of New Covenant Church, Harry Jensen, met with Pastors Kirk Gilchrist and Christopher Hopper on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 to formally present a complete church gifting of their congregation and of their property at 22791 County Rd 42, Carthage, NY 13619. This includes their existing membership, a 15,000 sq-ft building, and 28-acres of property. Pastor Jensen expressed his church’s efforts to model New Life’s culture in recent years, shaping their direction and vision after our own. But with no apparent successor for the senior pastorate, he and his board arrived at a unanimous decision to approach New Life’s leadership with the option of turning their church into a satellite location.
After touring the grounds and facility on Wednesday, November 11, Pastors Kirk and Christopher met with New Covenant’s Board of Elders on Saturday, November 14. This extended meeting covered the topics of church vision, doctrine, the future plans for all existing staff and church members, and the details of an operational transition beginning January 1, 2016. The expectancy and spirit of the meeting were exceptional as all present continued to feel God’s ordering of this transition.
Two New Life board meetings followed on Sunday, November 15 and Wednesday, November 18, in which the acquisition was discussed in detail. The entire concept was met with unanimous and enthusiastic approval, echoing what had been felt by Pastor Jensen’s Board. Further approval was also voiced by key leaders in the Christian community.
I believe God has clearly given tremendous favor and is pleased with us and our work and ministry. I want to make sure that I don’t miss the importance of what is happening here, something that maybe few get to experience to this degree in our lifetimes, let alone being able to see with our own eyes!
—Jody Meeks, Board of Elders
New Life’s senior staff are presently interviewing applicants for the pastorate in Carthage. Sunday services will be facilitated by New Life’s rotating worship teams with support from Abundant Life in Lowville. Preaching will be conducted by New Life’s pastors both in-person and via streaming video. Future plans include the implementation of Small Groups and additional ministry services to the community.
We ask that you join with us in welcoming the Carthage Campus into the New Life family of locations. Please commit to praying for this region of the county and believing God for great things as his Gospel reaches new lives.
In the love of King Jesus,
New Life’s Pastors and Board of Elders
